How to use Instagram: Starting with the basics
Let’s start with the basics: if you want to build an effective presence on Instagram, the first thing to do is switch to a professional account. A simple and completely free step that, however, will give you access to a whole range of very important information: Insights.

These are the statistical data of your profile. Here you will find the age groups, gender, and geographical location of your audience. Additionally, you will understand which content is most appreciated and which is least. Knowing how to read Insights helps you understand your followers’ preferences, and through this data, you can create and calibrate future content.
Another key step: completing your profile well. Add a nice profile picture that is clear and recognizable, write a catchy bio, without any special characters or too many emojis.
If you have a website, this is the right space to add the link; the bio is the first thing on your profile that appears to others, so filling it out correctly is essential. Don’t forget the nickname, avoid overly long ones; it should be short and incisive, easy for people to remember.
Finally, take advantage of all the content you can create on this platform. If you want to learn how to use Instagram to succeed, you need to be ready to experiment and engage. Photos and mini-videos for your profile feed, Instagram Stories (fundamental), and longer videos (always vertical) for IGTV.
However, remember that rather than creating low-quality content, it’s better not to create it at all. If you don’t know what to say in a video longer than 30 seconds, forget IGTV; instead, focus on Stories.

How to use Instagram: Planning and storytelling
To succeed on Instagram, 2 main ingredients are crucial: planning and creating a storytelling. Projects that work on Instagram are those that have an idea behind them, tell a story, and bring added value from your audience’s perspective. Ah, the profile must obviously be public. A private profile has significantly lower visibility, which would greatly penalize you.
All the content you are going to create requires careful planning; this is where the famous editorial plan comes into play, a detailed organization of the posts you will publish day by day.
Remember that you need to be consistent. Ideally, you should post at least one message per day in the feed; if you can’t, try to maintain some rhythm anyway (every 2 days, every 3 days…). My advice is to post at least 2 or 3 times a week.
Stories should be made throughout the day, ranging from 5 to 10. Share a funny anecdote from your life, your work, take followers with you on a trip or an interesting event. Spoken stories, where you show yourself firsthand, receive much more appreciation than static stories.

Find the right inspiration
How to create successful posts? First, you need to find the right inspiration. Spend time on the platform, scroll through the profile images that seem closer to your style and what you want to communicate, and be inspired by them.
Edit your photos with one of the many photo editing apps available; I recommend Lightroom, professional and not too complicated to use. Adjust the lights and contrast to make your photos more appealing. Images featuring a human face receive a higher percentage of likes, as do those in soft colors and with a high percentage of light blue.

If you want to preview what your profile photos will look like, you can use the Unum app. Very useful for checking that the colors match each other and that the final effect is uniform. The app is completely free and available for Android and iOS. Two other steps to take are: research # and write the caption.
The caption is the description that appears under each post in your profile feed. It should be well-written, appealing to those who read it, and not too long. In a few lines, you should be able to create curiosity among your followers and keep them on your page as long as possible.
Hashtags, on the other hand, should be up to 30 (tips suggest using 20). To find help with the same section of Instagram exploration, check which # are used by profiles most similar to yours. Don’t forget to change them almost always; using the same # for every photo is penalizing.

Create genuine relationships
The last piece of advice I want to give you on how to use Instagram the right way is to build genuine relationships with other community members. Comment and like posts in your own niche, as long as what you write is meaningful; don’t limit yourself to the usual phrases like “beautiful photos” but go deeper. Beautiful friendships can also be born on social media, and why not, collaborations and work relationships.
